"WHY AIESEC? WHY JLC?" - PrincessConsuela

Me and my friends have grown to love AIESEC so much that whenever it’s not about work and we are casually meeting up for a friendly chat, somehow or the other we end up talking about something related to AIESEC even though it is not necessarily needed. I believe it is because it has become a part of our lives so much that now it is no longer an obligation but a way of life which we just do. No body minds when a little AIESEC related topic comes up and believe me when I say this, somedays it’s all AIESEC and at the end of the day we feel the same satisfaction we would get by gossiping with each other. Hey AIESEC! What’s up? Is a saying forever engrained in our minds as AIESECER’s. AIESEC culture is such that where ever we go we immediately feel comfortable with the ones of our kind no matter what their nationality is. Be it the Jives, the jokes or the joys we all have one commitment, one goal and that is what keeps us intact. AIESEC makes us feel more powerful, more fear less and brave which makes it possible to go anywhere in the world on our own and our expectations from fellow AIESECER’s never let us down. This culture in AIESEC has made us all endearing, curious and ready to deal with any problem which is why we say “ai Moko?” which basically means yes, what’s up? When greeted with Hey JLC! (AIESEC in University of Sri Jayawardenapura) AIESEC is a youth run organization which came in to light after the second world war with the hopes of uniting cultures and creating cross cultural experiences so that by learning and loving another culture no human being would want to create a war with it. AIESEC is a global platform for young people to explore their leadership potential whereby we would volunteer abroad and develop our leadership potential while at the same time help for a worthy cause. Through this we have envisioned the peace and fulfilment of human kind’s potential. Since we were founded, we have engaged and developed over 1,000,000 young people who have been through an AIESEC experience. The impact of our organization can be seen through our alumni who represent business, NGO and world leaders, including one Nobel Peace Prize laureate, Martti Atisaari of Finland. Today we are present in 126 countries and territories after providing our service for 65 years. In Sri Lanka AIESEC is present in 5 local committees and 3 expansions. That being the universities of Sri Jayewardenepura, Moratuwa, Colombo, Kelaniya, Kandy and Ruhuna, NSBM and SLIIT. We fondly call our Local committees through the names JLC, CS, CC, CN and Kandy. AIESEC has its own slangs, signs and implications which makes it all the more special to be a part of it. The best thing about AIESEC is, I suppose, is the fact that it is universal, and anywhere you go it wouldn’t be any harder to fit in because they all have the same culture and understanding between them. AIESEC in JLC which is what I’m a part of is the local committee of the university of Sri Jayewardenepura which has been in conduct since 1995. Currently we have over 150 active members from 6 faculties. Typically, we have a Local Committee Meeting every two-three months where we recap all that was done during the interim, appreciate member talents and commitments and tell our members about everything that is planned for the future. While reading this you might think they’re very boring but trust me you will know how different they are from any other meeting you have been to just by sitting through one of ours. Perhaps the Jives in the beginning and end would give a little hint. That’s the other thing I love about AIESEC, the fact that they have identified how a person’s mind works and has catered to it just the way where productivity and efficiency is given most attention. Since we are all students we know how a little relaxing and loosening up after a long tiring day fixes us just right for something serious where we can give our renewed and energized attention to. Guaranteed AIESEC is more flexible and human friendly than any other club or society you’ve been to. Which is why I think our member growth keeps rocketing high with people asking us when we would have our next intake. If you’re reading this and if you are an AIESECER I know while reading you yourself went through the most amazing memories you’ve had during your AIESEC life. if you’re not an AIESECER yet I hope now you have the interest to join us so you will equally have the opportunity to create some of the best memories of your life. Hope to see you at the next LCM. till then Peace out! ๐Ÿ˜‰
